Holy Family Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Vikhroli, established in the year 1989, was earlier known as St. Joseph’s Malankara Catholic Church. With migrants from Kerala, the unit is one of the earliest  formed in the Mumbai region.

Rev. Fr. Peter John OIC, played a key role in the formation of the unit as he, with the help of the members in the localities of Mulund East, Bhandup East and West, Kanjurmarg East and West, Vikhroli East and West, Ghatkopar East and Kurla East, formed the unit.

St. Joseph’s Malankara Catholic Church was rechristened to be as Holy Family Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Vikhroli in the year 2007, after a new renovated church was built for the community by the shear efforts of Rev. Fr. Antony Padipurackal OIC. The place where the church now stands was brought in the year 1999 with the help and guidance of then Mission Superior Rev. Fr. Mathai Iranithara OIC (who had also been the Vicar of the unit) and Rev. Fr. Kurien Thondukhuzhiyil OIC. The Mumbai deluge in the year 2005, devastated the then structure leading to the need of bringing up a new church.

Hence keeping the Holy Family as its patron, Most Rev. His Grace Dr. Geevarghese Mar Divaniasios blessed the newly renovated church on 1^st August, 2007.  The unit now with 45 families, is led by Rev. Fr. Philip Pulipra as its Vicar and Rev. Sr. Kiran SIC as the Sr. Incharge.

From the time of its formation back in  1989, the unit has made its presence felt in all the activities of Malankara Catholic Church in and outside Mumbai through its active participation of its members who have not only migrated to other units in Mumbai but also around the world. All its pious organisations such as the Catechism, MCYM, MCA and Mathrusangham have contributed their best talents to the service of the Malankara Catholic Church.

Holy Family Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Vikhroli, now stands proudly with the newly formed St. Ephrem Exarchate of Pune extending all its support towards the growth of Malankara Catholic Church outside Kerala.
