 History

During 1960’s, the seven Malankara catholic families staying in and around IC colony had occasional prayer gatherings. Fr. Ignatius Thangalathil OIC was appointed as the Mission superior of Mumbai and from that time, Holy Mass was celebrated once in a month regularly in St. Francis Monastery. The first Malankara Catholic Convention of the faithful outside Kerala, conducted in the St. Francis School in the year 1992 was a milestone in the growth of this Church. A plot of land was purchased with the generous contribution of the members where a shed was constructed and the community started conducting Holy Qurbana there occasionally. In the year 2004, a primary school was started there to impart education to the economically backward children from the nearby slums.  In the year 2010, the new church in Borivili was blessed and dedicated for regular Holy Qurbana. At present there are 74 families.

The Society of St Vincent De Paul is very active in this parish and it is doing several charity activities among the poor people.  Fr. Raju Parukkoor and Fr George Abhayanand OIC belong to Borivali parish.  Mrs. Sara Mani Kuriakose has been conferred with the title of “Barz- Itho- Kassertho” (The diligent daughter of the Church) for the services she has rendered in various fields for the Malankara Church in general and the Bombay region in particular.
